  Are we restricted in how funds from federal payments may be used by the jurisdiction?

Yes, in most cases.

Generally, there are no federal restriction on the use of these funds. Funds may be used for any lawful purpose. BJA encourages but does not require chief executive officers to utilize funds to directly support of prosecuting and detaining of criminal defendants that result from federal referrals and declinations.
