Stephanie LoConto, Senior Policy Advisor

Stephanie LoConto serves as a Senior Policy Advisor in the SMART Office for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.

Prior to joining the SMART staff, Ms. LoConto served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. As an Assistant Attorney General, Ms. LoConto prosecuted juvenile cases and represented the District in post-adjudication juvenile matters. Ms. LoConto also served as a liaison to the District's Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, advising the department regarding juvenile cases and filing motions on behalf of that Department.

Prior to working as an Assistant Attorney General, Ms. LoConto was a Staff Attorney at the National District Attorneys' Association's (NDAA) National Juvenile Justice Prosecution Center as well as at NDAA's Drug Prosecution and Prevention Program. In these roles, Ms. LoConto performed extensive research for prosecutors on issues related to both juvenile and drug prosecution, and composed and edited publications on such issues. Ms. LoConto also created and organized curricula for trainings for drug and juvenile prosecutors.

Before joining NDAA, Ms. LoConto served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable William I. Cowin of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. As a Law Clerk, Ms. LoConto researched and drafted opinions of the Massachusetts Appeals Court on various matters of civil and criminal law.

Ms. LoConto received her B.A., summa cum laude, in History and American Studies from Boston College, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. LoConto received her J.D., with honors in Litigation and Dispute Resolution, from Boston University School of Law, where she was a member of the Public Interest Law Journal. A Massachusetts native, Ms. LoConto is a member of the Massachusetts and District of Columbia bars.
