Summary: The Juvenile Services Department of Miami-Dade County (MDC) will implement Project CeaseFire, a best practice evidenced-based model to reduce youth and gang violence and shootings in MDC, committed by juveniles ages 14 to 17, and young adults 18 to 25. One (1) community hot-spot neighborhood will be targeted (Liberty City).
The overarching project goals include: 1) Reduce gang-related shooting and violence; 2) Increase public safety in communities and schools; 3) Engage community members, parents, and stakeholder in support of the implementation of the project strategies and models; and 4) Promote and encourage juveniles and young adults to become responsible and productive members of the community, avoiding violence, and criminal behavior.
An independent Project Evaluator will measure goal attainment and performance outcomes, by conducting a systematic investigation, including research development, testing, and evaluation; designed contribute to generalized knowledge pertaining to the success of the CeaseFire Model. This grant request is for $1.5 million for a 36-month project, with 300 participants.
