NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK, 1997
CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES

The following activities have been planned by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) within the U.S. Department of Justice during National Crime Victims Rights Week.

Friday, April 11: A memorandum was sent to all Office of Justice Programs employees regarding National Crime Victims' Rights Week with information about local programs needing volunteer assistance.
Monday April 14: The Bureau of Justice Statistics released a publication on the long- term trends in criminal victimization. OVC set-up display cases with proclamations, training curricula, and other materials commemorating National Crime Victims' Rights Week at the Justice Department.
Wednesday, April 16: The Attorney General will deliver testimony before Congress on the Crime Victims' Rights Amendment. OVC will issue a press release about the OVC Homepage at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/.
Friday, April 18: The Attorney General will present the Crime Victim Service Awards 10 individuals and four programs at the Great Hall at l 1 :00 a.m.
Other Activities
- OVC mailed 4,000 Victim Rights Week Resource Guides to victim services programs, state administrators, and allied professionals.
- OVC mailed nearly 10,000 NCVRW posters to hospital, libraries, national organizations, crime victim service programs, U.S. Attorneys' victim and witness assistance staff, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- The OVC Resource Center developed special information packets for crime victims and victim service providers which can be obtained by calling 1-800-627- 6872.
- The Attorney General requested component heads to train staff on victims' rights and to show a video developed by OVC entitled, "Justice for Victims.
