Please respond to the following questions additional 8x11 sheets may be attached if necessary 1. DESCRIBE THE IMPACT THAT VOCA FUNDS HAVE HAD ON YOUR PROGRAM'S ABILITY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CRIME VICTIMS. Section III OTHER: Dog Bite ... $144.99; Possible Anthrax Exposure $694.50 Section IV OTHER: relocation $8,365.06; transportation/milage- $16,134.74 14; Housing/hotel/rent $3,754.75; Articles taken as evidence- $3,545.97; Food $47.30; Food/housing per diem $5,175.00 ====== VOCA funds have provided the additional funds necessary in meeting the ever changing needs of crime victims. The availability of VOCA has allowed us to increase our compensable amounts on counseling, to Cover medicals for one than one year, and to increase funeral benefits. We have been able to increase our funeral benefits from $3.00 to $5,000.2. HOW DO YOU MEASURE YOUR PROGRAM'S EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS IN REDUCING THE FINANCIAL IMPACTH OF CRIME ON VICTIMS? WHAT ARE THE RESULTS? We do not actively track the processing time for claims. However, most claims are processed within 30-60 days of receipt. Our emergency claims are processed within 10 days of receipt. This means that 10 days after we receive a claim the decision is made and check is issued to the victim. If we can meet the 10-day limit on an emergency then it is fast racked so a decision is rendered within 20 days. One of the reasons we have chosen not to track processing time is do in part to the automated tracking system. If one claim is held up for a few months due to a of lack of information or bills from the doc. or hospital the whole processing report suffers. One claim can bring the processing up from under 4.5 weeks to 5 months. We view that as an inaccurate report. Because, I as director make the final decision, no claim sets on my desk for more than 3 weeks unless; it is waiting for a police report.
3. DID YOUR STATE USE VOCA ADMINSTRATIVE FUNDS? YES IF YOUR STATE USED VOCA ADMINSTRATIVE FUNDS, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE IMPACT THESE FUNDS HAVE HAD ON YOUR STATE'S ABILITY TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION OR IMPROVE VICTIM SERVICES. The administrative funds allow us to improve and expand our computerized compensation data program, to provide compensation training during the year to law enforcement, prosecutor, courts and advocates, and to provide written materials on crime victims' compensation, We believe the outreach we have accomplished using VOCA admin(istrative) dollars has had a direct correlation to the 15% increase in claims received in the past year.
