Community Corrections Technologies

NIJ's equipment and technology program for community corrections identifies the needs of parole and probation agencies as well as community-based offender programs and, whenever possible, draws on directly available technology that can be quickly adapted for use by these organizations.

Ongoing Projects

National Electronic Supervision Technology Resource Center. NIJ, in conjunction with the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center—Rocky Mountain, is developing a National Electronic Supervision Technology Resource Center (NESTRC) that will provide information and assistance related to selecting, implementing, and evaluating electronic supervision technology. Many states are mandating the use of electronic supervision for some offenders. By providing valid, objective information, NESTRC will help garner the confidence and support needed for courts and criminal justice agencies to begin using supervision technology for many more offenders without jeopardizing public safety. For more information on the project, contact Joe Russo at jrusso@du.edu.

Research on electronic supervision technologies. NIJ is developing research that explores the effectiveness of electronic supervision technologies. This research will provide data to the field as to how electronic supervision technology can best be applied to achieve desired outcomes.
