Community Corrections Technology Priorities
NIJ's research, development, technology, and evaluation process involves the convening of technology working groups. The Community Corrections Technology Working Group has identified the following technology needs:
Locate, track, monitor, and communicate with offenders. Technology to improve the tracking, location, monitoring of, and communicating with predatory and violent offenders in all environments within the community. The technology will also provide a two-way communication system that can be used by the officer to remind special needs offenders of appointments, medication schedules, or any new requirements.
Monitor cell phones, PDAs, and other storage media devices of sex offenders for pornography. Technology tools able to monitor sex offenders' cell phones, PDAs, and other media to detect pornography.
Standards and testing program for electronic supervision technologies. Technology for a testing and certification program for electronic supervision equipment.
