BJA provides leadership and services in grant administration and criminal justice policy; this program supports States' efforts to prevent and eliminate rape between inmates in State and local detention facilities, and to safeguard the communities where inmates return.
Bureau of Justice Statistics, Survey on Sexual Violence
BJS is the United States' primary source for criminal justice statistics, including crime and victim statistics. The 2004 and 2005 reports provide counts of inmate-on-inmate and staff-on-inmate sexual violence reported to correctional authorities, by type, for adult prisons, jails, and other adult correctional facilities.

National Prison Rape Elimination Commission
Established by PREA, the Commission recommends standards to enhance the detection, prevention, reduction, and punishment of inmate sexual assault in U.S. prison systems. The Web site includes information on public hearings, resources, and statistics on prison rape.

Stop Prisoner Rape
SPR is a nonprofit, human rights organization whose mission is to end sexual assault behind bars. SPR supports policies that will promote government accountability for prisoner rape, change negative public attitudes toward the issue, and provide resources for survivors of this kind of violence.
