Radio Spectrum

Radio communications use radio waves at different frequencies, grouped within bands, that make up the radio spectrum. The spectrum is becoming an increasingly scarce resource, and public safety and commercial interests are competing for its use. This NIJ InShort Fact Sheet gives an overview of the problems this competition represents and the steps being taken to alleviate them, including short- and long-term plans to allocate additional portions of the spectrum to public safety use.
