Perspectives on Crime and Justice: 1998-1999 Lecture Series

For the past 3 years NIJ has sponsored lectures on timely issues in crime and criminal justice intended to bring new perspectives to policy discussions. The most recent Perspectives on Crime and Justice: 1998–1999 Lecture Series includes Mark Kleiman's paper on "getting deterrence right" by modifying the behavior of potential offenders and changing their perception of the consequences of offending; Felton Earls' presentation on the importance of men and fathers in socializing children and building the community; Sissela Bok's paper on the media's influence in shaping public perception of violence and the way that perception influences the administration of justice; and James B. Jacobs' paper on the challenge of "zero tolerance" as a viable approach to fighting governmental corruption.
