Forensic Sciences: Review of Status and Needs

February 1999
While forensic laboratories continue to make technological strides such key advances may not be known throughout the entire forensic community. To assess the current state of forensic laboratories, a committee of forensic scientists and administrators participated in a 2-day meeting held by the National Institute of Justice, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors. The committee's assessment can be found in Forensic Sciences: Review of Status and Needs, an NIJ Issues and Practices report. Areas explored include training; technology transfer; methods research, development, testing, and evaluation; and analytical services.
