Publications often are presented in two categories:

• NIJ Pubs are produced and published by the U.S. Department of Justice. 
• NIJ-Sponsored publications are based on NIJ-funded studies but are not published by the U.S. Department of Justice. They include reports submitted to NIJ by grantees, articles that appeared in peer-reviewed and trade periodicals, and other materials submitted to NIJ by grantees.
