Research Institute Directors Network
Sharing mutual interests and stimulating global research.
The fourth annual meeting of government-based criminal justice research institute directors was held on September 5, 2001 in Lausanne, Switzerland. At the meeting, fifteen institute directors from twelve countries met for a day to exchange information and review research priorities. During the meeting, individual representatives reported on criminal justice research initiatives at a roundtable and committee chairs made presentations on collaborative research projects. The fifth annual meeting took place in Toledo, Spain, in conjunction with the European Crime Conference meeting in September, 2002.
NIJ formed the Research Institute Directors Network in 1998. During the first meeting, representatives from 18 different research institutes met at NIJ to discuss areas of mutual concern. The goal of this initial meeting was to lay the foundation on which to build an international community among justice research institutes. Following discussions about the goals, objectives, and priorities of each institute, participants discussed expectations for this informal network as a forum to exchange information, discuss problems, and share concerns with peers.
