Forum on Youth Violence PreventionForum on Youth Violence Prevention

The Summit on Preventing Youth Violence was held April 4–5, 2011, in Washington, D.C. Teams from Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Memphis, Tennessee; and Salinas and San Jose, California, presented their plans to prevent youth violence in their cities.

The summit is part of the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention launched by President Obama in October 2010. The goal of the forum is to reduce violence, improve opportunities for youth, and encourage innovation at both local and federal levels.

In addition to member presentations, the event featured expert panelists and various breakout sessions. Featured speakers included Attorney General Eric Holder; Rev. Gregory J. Boyle, S.J., founder of Homeboy Industries; and Rev. Samuel "Billy" Kyles, a close aide to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
