Description of trends in violent and property crime reported to police by race of victim

Violent crime

For white victims, the percentage of crimes reported to the police began at 40.6 in 1992-1993 and fell to 40.1 in 1994-1995. Then the percentage increased to 47.9 in 2000-2001. Then it fluctuates with a low of 46.8 as it increased to 47.0 in 2006-2007.

For black victims, the percentage of crimes reported to the police began at 53.4 in 1992-1993 and fell to 47.9 in 1998-1999. Then the percentage increased to 53.7 in 2006-2007.

For victims of other races, the percentage of crimes reported to the police began at 47.2 in 1992-1993 and rose to 55.1 in 2002-2003. Then the percentage decreased to 41.9 in 2006-2007.

Property crime - The unit of measure is the head of the household that experienced the crime

For white victims, the percentage of crimes reported to the police began at 33.3 in 1992-1993 and fell to 32.9 in 1994-1995. Then the percentage rose to 38.9 in 2004-2005, before decreasing to 37.4 in 2006-2007.

For black victims, the percentage of crimes reported to the police began at 34.6 in 1992-1993 and rose to 43.5 in 2004-2005. The percentage then decreased to 38.3 in 2006-2007.

For victims other races property crime, the rate began at 29.4 in 1992-1993 and continued to increase to 53.5 in 2006-2007.
