For white victims, the rate per 1,000 population began at 20.0 in 1973 and increased to 20.9 in 1974. Then the rate fell to a low of 6.3 in 2004, before increasing to 6.5 in 2005.
For black victims, the rate per 1,000 population began at 37.3 in 1973 and remained constant until 1974. After 1974, the rate decreased to 36.7 in 1975, before increasing to 38.2 in 1976. After 1976, it dropped to 33.2 in 1978, where it remained constant until 1979. Then the rate increased to 40.4 in 1981, before decreasing, reaching 11.2 in 2004. Then it increased to 13.6 in 2005.
