For number of incidents involving persons ages 12-17, the number of incidents began at 921,000 in 1973 and dropped to 618,000 in 1986. Then the number of incidents rose to a high of 1,108,000 in 1993, before falling to 278,000 in 2002. Then it rose to 436,000 in 2005.
For number of incidents involving persons ages 18 or older, the number of incidents began at 2,342,000 in 1973 and rose to 2,947,000 in 1981. After 1981, the number of incidents fell to 1,146,000 in 2005.
For number of incidents involving persons ages unknown, the number of incidents began at 296,000 in 1973 and rose to 336,000 in 1975. Then the number of incidents dropped, reaching 205,000 in 1979, before rising to 481,000 in 1991. Then it dropped to 131,000 in 2004, before climbing to 220,000 in 2005.
