Drug abuse violation arrests

Data on drug abuse violation arrests are from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) which collects information on crimes reported to law enforcement authorities by victims and voluntarily submitted by the agencies to the FBI. The offenses included are homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The UCR also collects reports of arrests by law enforcement agencies for the offenses listed above as well as 21 additional offenses including drug abuse violations.

Drug abuse violations are defined as State or local offenses relating to the unlawful possession, sale, use, growing, and manufacturing of narcotic drugs including opium or cocaine and their derivatives, marijuana, synthetic narcotics, and dangerous nonnarcotic drugs such as barbiturates.
