$500,000*
PURPOSE: The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) will use grant funds to implement a drug court in the 56th Judicial District, which consists of Trigg, Caldwell, Lyon, and
Livingston Counties. The program will serve approximately 200 nonviolent, substance-abusing, male and
female adult offenders in a 12 to 24-month post-adjudication program over a 3-year period. Program
services will include early, continuous, and intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory drug
testing, graduated sanctions, incentives, and other rehabilitative services such as education, primary
health care, housing, employment, and aftercare. The AOC 56th Judicial District drug court's goals
include reducing recidivism, increasing employability and education level, providing safe and sober
housing, and improving family functioning. The drug court will implement a management information
system (MIS) to collect and maintain data necessary for program planning, operations, and evaluation.
An independent evaluator will conduct process and outcome evaluations to measure program
effectiveness. The 56th Judicial District will coordinate with state and local organizations such as
Livingston County Health Department, Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children, the faith
community, the University of Kentucky Extension Service, and the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research
at the University of Kentucky.
