AWARD AMOUNT:

$ 486,440*

PURPOSE: The Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin, will use grant funds to implement a post-adjudication program. The goals of this drug court are to assist substance- abusing mentally-ill clients with increasing their education levels, obtaining jobs skills leading to employment, securing housing, and reuniting with their families. This urban community plans to serve approximately 150 clients over the 3-year grant period. The program will include 12 months of treatment and an aftercare component, which consists of peer work groups, mentoring, relapse prevention, and volunteer work. Upon completion of the program, clients may have their records expunged. The program consists of intensive judicial supervision, sanctions and incentives, and frequent, mandatory drug testing. Located within an Empowerment Zone, the court will collaborate with Empowerment Zone initiatives to serve substance-abusing mental health clients.
