PURPOSE: The Davis County School District, with authorization from the Davis County
Commission, will use grant funds to implement a juvenile drug court, which targets nonviolent,
substance-abusing juvenile offenders. The program will serve 200 juveniles and family
members over a 3-year period. Clients will be expected to participate in the program for a
minimum of 12 months. The drug court will provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment,
mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare, and other rehabilitative services. The
court will conduct process and outcome evaluations to evaluate the court's operations and impact
on the surrounding community. The program will provide collateral services such as tutoring,
transportation, recreation, employability training, mental and primary health care, and
educational services. The goals of the program are to: enhance public safety by reducing
substance abuse, provide strength-based treatment, increase positive family functioning, and
evaluate the program's effectiveness. The Davis County Juvenile Drug Court will coordinate its
efforts with the following agencies: Davis Behavioral Health, the Student Assistance Program,
Odyssey House, Work Force Services, and the United Way.
