FY 2002 DRUG COURT GRANT PROGRAM

Juvenile Implementation Grant Award

AWARD AMOUNT:

$498,380*

PURPOSE: The Bonneville County Juvenile Drug Court will use grant funds to implement a juvenile drug court in the Seventh Judicial District for nonviolent, substance-abusing, male and female juvenile offenders. The drug court program will serve 125 to 150 juveniles and 400 to 500 family members in a 8 to12 month post-adjudication program over a 3-year grant period. The principal objectives of this program are to reduce substance abuse and delinquency, address social and economic needs, improve school performance and attendance, and reduce reliance on juvenile detention. Drug court services will include regular judicial supervision, intensive treatment, incentives and sanctions, and frequent, mandatory drug testing. The Bonneville Juvenile Drug Court will incorporate collateral services such as education, transportation, housing, mental and primary health care, and employment. An independent evaluator will conduct process and outcome evaluations to gauge program effectiveness. The drug court will implement a management information system for operational and evaluation purposes. The grant recipient will coordinate the drug court effort with the following agencies: the Governor's Interagency Substance Abuse Task Force, the United Way Eastern Idaho Technical College, Haven Homeless Shelter, YMCA, Boy and Girl Scouts, and the Bonneville Youth Development Council.
