Putting the Evaluation Findings to Work

  • Develop criteria to identify eligible offenders most likely to benefit from the program.
  • Assess community needs to ensure a good fit between those needs and the nature of the program.
  • Involve the community in the planning and implementation of the program.
  • Provide rewards for successful completion of program phases.
  • Develop a system of graduated sanctions for holding offenders accountable for their actions during program participation.
  • Establish appropriate aftercare/follow-up programs.
  • Develop strategies for involving community members in the day-to-day activities of the program.
  • Hire staff who are familiar with the community and with addressing the needs of the offenders.
